They're similar from behind, yes, but the Gran Turismo is a much lower-slung car. I usually don't struggle to discern between the two, but on could chock that up to young eyes.

I do the exact same thing with the TTS and TTRS. Head on and from a distance, they look extremely similar to an R8.
